Different orientations of shear wall in a reinforced concrete structure to control drift and deflection

Abstract While Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, adapts to more and high-rise buildings skyscrapers, concerns remain about their design efficiency ability withstand shear loads from seismic movements. In this study, several orientations placements walls in a regular G +15 story reinforced concrete building were assessed observe nature structure subjected earthquake by adopting Equivalent Static Analysis. CSi ETABS 2019 was utilized analyze shear, drift, displacement, stiffness, torsional irregularity compared against eight separate models with different wall placements. The significance study lies its contribution area designing earthquake-resistant structures appropriate locations following recent Bangladesh National Building Code 2020 (Seismic criteria as per ASCE 7-05). Results reveal that placed symmetrically along shorter span for selected structural plan have shown less lateral drift displacement than other orientations.
